SCHOOL NURSE NOTES                                                                                                     May/June  2008

As you plan for the summer, don’t forget the FALL.  Please go ahead NOW, and schedule SPORTS PHYSICALS, IMMUNIZATIONS, and APPOINTMENTS for Medication Orders.  All medication orders must be renewed each school year.

Please remember to pick up any remaining MEDICATION at school, on the last day.  You may contact the nurse at your child’s school to make special arrangements for pickup.  Medications not picked up on the last day of school, unless special arrangements have been made with the school nurse, will be disposed of.  We CANNOT send medications home with students.

A few other REMINDERS and for your information (FYI):

*During the summer, as always, please be vigilant about checking for HEAD LICE.  No student wants to start the school year with them!  If you have questions or concerns during the summer, you may call the Dorchester County Health Department 410-228-3294, or 410-901-8167.

*Please be aware that those ENERGY “BOOST” DRINKS may be too potent for your child. Many of them are loaded with caffeine/stimulants and may be harmful, causing adverse reactions.  There is no substitute for adequate rest.*Remember to check the family for TICKS, especially when in tall grasses and heavily wooded areas.  Remove them right away, as the longer ticks are attached, the more likely they are to transmit diseases. Call the doctor if a rash or flu-like symptoms develop within a few days to a few weeks following a tick bite.  Mark the calendar when one is removed. Have a great, healthy, happy summer!

Text Box: Counselor’s Corner… Character Counts - The Pillar of the Month for May is Caring
Be kind. Be compassionate. Show you care. Express gratitude. Forgive others. Help people in need.
Life gives us many opportunities everyday to show we are a caring person. Do you hug your mother and father every day? Do you offer a pencil to your neighbor in class when they do not have one? Do you thank your bus driver for a safe ride to school or your teacher for answering a question? There are many ways to help people in need- give freely of your time, your money, and your talent. Forgive others and do not carry a grudge. Put things in the past that you can not change. How many other ways can you think of to show that you are a caring person? Make each day a better day at Warwick.
