Text Box: Notes from the Nurse…..
You know your child best. Please call the doctor when your child is ill, rather than sending him/her to school, “to be checked by the school nurse.”
When someone is sick, his/her DEFENSE is low against also catching something else!
Frequent, thorough HAND WASHING is crucial to preventing the spread of many infections. The use of waterless HAND SANITIZERS (Purell, etc.) is acceptable for when hand washing is not convenient.

Covering coughs and sneezes is not only GOOD MANNERS, but when followed by hand cleansing, is a simple step to take to STOP the spread of disease. Many health conditions can be controlled by not sharing personal items and cleaning surfaces frequented by others.

Good housekeeping and good hygiene go a long way in staying well, along with healthful nutrition, exercise, adequate rest, hard work, and fun!
Parents:
Please remember!! We are glad to give your children medicine in school, but we must have a doctor’s order even for over the counter products such as cough drops, and Tylenol. Thank you !
Text Box: Counselor’s Corner ...Mrs. Winnie Holden

Welcome, students and parents. I am looking forward to working with you this year. Hope we can make this your best year yet. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to call.
Just a reminder. If your child is absent, please send in a note when your child returns to school explaining why he/she was absent. Remember, it is important to be in school every day. If you have moved over the summer please provide the school with proof of residency. This may be in the form of a lease or rental agreement that can be substantiated, a utility bill other than a phone bill, proof of mortgage agreement/payment, IRS Document of any kind with address and name, or property tax document.

Character Counts This is a program that will be promoted to help our students develop good ethical values. The characteristics of respect, responsibility, caring, citizenship, trustworthiness, and fairness will be stressed in our school. These pillars of character education will be discussed and each one will be emphasized.

September’s Pillar of the Month is Responsibility. Do what you are supposed to do. Persevere . Keep on trying. Always do your best. Use self control. Be self-disciplined. Think before you act. Consider the consequences of your choices.

Our current science units are related to astronomy, so we’ve arranged for an opportunity to view the night sky. On Wednesday, September 19th, you may bring your children to school at 7:00 p.m. to participate in a special evening program. Members of the Delmarva Stargazers club will bring their telescopes and their knowledge of the stars. We’ll begin with a short presentation in the cafeteria, and then we’ll go to the field behind the school to look at the night sky together.

We hope many second and fifth grade students will be able to participate, but this is not a required activity. Each student will need to be with an adult.

If you have questions, please let us know. We hope to see you the evening of September 19th!
